Tic Tac Toe
Climb a ladder of five computer opponents, or play a friend on boards up to 5×5.
Tic Tac Toe against a ladder of five computer opponents, or a friend on the same device. Place your mark in turn; the first to complete a line wins.
Boards
| Board | To win |
|---|---|
| 3×3 | 3 in a row |
| 4×4 | 4 in a row |
| 5×5 | 4 in a row |
A line runs across, down or diagonally. A full board with no line is a draw. X always moves first; in Settings you choose to play X or O.
The ladder
Beat an opponent to meet the next one. A beaten opponent can be played again at any time.
| Opponent | Board | How it plays | Beating it pays |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pip | 3×3 | Any square | 2 Tacs |
| Fenn | 3×3 | Its best move half the time | 3 Tacs |
| Hoot | 3×3 | Its best move most of the time | 5 Tacs |
| Inky | 4×4 | Its best move half the time | 8 Tacs |
| Ember | 3×3, 5 seconds a move | Its best move every time | 10 Tacs, for a draw |
Ember never loses on 3×3, so holding Ember to a draw counts as beating it.
Against the computer
- Every win also pays Tacs: 1 against Pip, 2 against Fenn or Inky, 4 against Hoot. A draw with Ember pays 3.
- Hint flashes the move the best player would make for you.
- Undo takes back your last move and the computer's reply.
- The line under the board shows the line to make, your win streak and your best streak.

Clocks
Ember gives you 5 seconds a move. A game with a friend can have a clock of 10, 5 or 3 seconds a move, set in Settings, which also sets its board. When a clock runs out, a random square is played for you, and Undo is off.
After a round
The squares are numbered in the order they were played, and Replay plays the round back move by move.
Controls
Tap or click a square to play it. Enter presses Play again when a round is over.
Streaks, Tacs and settings are kept on your device.
